Graduated in Medicine from the Federal University of Paraná (1981), Master in Medicine (Ophthalmology) from the Federal University of São Paulo (1986) and a doctorate in Medicine (Ophthalmology) from the Federal University of São Paulo (1989). Specialization in Retina from the University of Southern California – USA (1987-1988). Titular Professor of Ophthalmology at UFPR. He is currently a member of – Soc. Brasileira Progresso Ciência – SP, – Club Jules Gonin, – American Academy Of Ophthalmology, Brazilian Society of Ophthalmology, Brazilian Medical Association, – Panamerican Association Of Ophthalmology, – Retina Society Of North America, – Association For Research In Vision And Ophthalmology, Hospital de Olhos do Paraná, Federal University of Paraná, National Council for Scientific and Technological Development, Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel and the Brazilian Council of Ophthalmology, Academia Paranaense de Medicina . Has experience in Medicine, with emphasis on Ophthalmologic Surgery (retina and vitreous). He was Dean of the Federal University of Paraná from 2002 to 2008. He was Secretary of State for Health of the State of Paraná in 2010. He currently holds the position of editor-in-chief of the scientific magazine e-oftalmo.cbo and is the current president of ACADEMIA BRASILEIRA OF OPHTHALMOLOGY. He is a technical consultant for Alcon, Allergan, Bayer and Novartis laboratories.
