Graduated in Medicine from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (1981), Master in Ophthalmology from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (1986) and Ph.D. in Ophthalmology from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (1994). Postdoctoral Fellow at the National Eye Institute of the National Institutes of Health (NIH/NEI) during 1998/1999. Full Professor in Ophthalmology at the Federal University of São Paulo – UNIFESP (2001). He is currently Professor of Ophthalmology at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro. He has in the area of Medicine, with emphasis on Clinical and Surgical Ophthalmology, acting as Coordinator of Graduate Studies in Ophthalmology with an area of expertise in ocular inflammation (uveitis, sarcoidosis and toxoplasmosis).
