The acute myopia can be caused by the use of systemic medications, such as topiramate. This study describes two cases of young patients with acute bilateral myopia induced by topiramate therapy to control depressive syndrome, making relation with similar cases described in literature and bibliographic review.

The aim of this article is to demonstrate the probable relationship between the recurrence of toxoplasmic retinochoroiditis and refractive surgery (LASIK). The case consists in a toxoplasmic retinochoroditis recurrence observed in a 33-year-old patient after a LASIK surgery. Fundoscopy revealed a retinochoroiditis focus in activity in the left eye seventeen days after the surgery, adjacent to an old scar of ocular toxoplasmosis. The authors present findings that reinforce possible causal links between LASIK and the recurrence of toxoplasmic retinochoroiditis.

Topiramate is a kind of sulfamate-substituted monosaccharide of oral presentation to be used primarily as an anticonvulsant and it doesn’t have structural relation with any other antiepileptic agents. This wide range antiepileptic drug has been used in the management of migraine, depression and neuropathic pain. Since it was approved as an anticonvulsant, many reports related to ophthalmological adverse effects have been published. The pathological findings include secondary angle closure glaucoma, transitory myopia, ocular hyperemia, uveal effusions, with or without mydriasis.
