ABSTRACT

Objective:

To characterize the morphological aspects related to the integrity of the corneas.

Methods:

A biomicroscopic analysis of the corneas collected from January 2019 to January 2021, by the Human Eye Tissue Bank of Hospital João XXIII, in order to identify the main changes that led to their discarding, based on the medical records analyzed.

Results:

Almost all variables coincided with what the literature indicates; however, stromal infiltration manifested differently.

Conclusion:

The main discarding factors were epithelial exposure, epithelial defect, stromal edema, stromal striae, and folds in Descemet’s membrane.
