ABSTRACT

Objective:

To analyze the performance of the Color and Snellen Tests in Brazil.

Methods:

This descriptive and retrospective epidemiological study employs a quantitative approach to analyze data obtained via TABNET regarding the “Color Vision Test” and the “Visual Acuity Potential Assessment” over the last five years, focusing on school-aged children.

Results:

26,374 tests were conducted, predominantly in the southern region of Brazil, although some states did not present data. There is a triple frequency in the use of the Snellen Test, with a total of 78,600 applications, with the Southeast region being the most productive.

Conclusion:

The analysis revealed an uneven screening performance for dyschromatopsia and low visual acuity in the national territory, indicating possible biases in the interpretation of the difficulties in carrying out the tests or in underreporting the procedures. It is also observed that the Snellen Test is performed three times more frequently than the Ishihara Test, raising concerns regarding the late diagnosis of dyschromatopsias.
