ABSTRACT

Objective:

To describe the epidemiological profile of hospital admissions for ocular cancer and adnexa in children in Brazil (2018-2024) and contextualize them using available oncological data.

Methods:

Ecological time-series study using SIH/SUS data (CID-10 C69) retrieved from DATASUS. Pediatric cases from the Hospital Cancer Registry (2018-2023) were analyzed based on the variables year, sex, age group, geographic region, and type of care. Descriptive analysis and inter-database comparison were performed.

Results:

A total of 10,167 admissions were recorded, with predominance in children aged 1-4 years, slight male predominance, and higher concentration in the Southeast region. The Registry identified 1,004 confirmed cases, predominantly retinoblastoma in early childhood.

Conclusion:

Hospital admissions reflect healthcare burden rather than proportional occurrence of confirmed cases. Integration between SIH/SUS and the Hospital Cancer Registry is essential for accurate interpretation of these data and for planning ocular oncology care.
