Performance evaluation of the IDRA® non-invasive device in the diagnosis of dry eye disease
DOI: 10.37039/1982.8551.20260100
ABSTRACT
Objetive:
To evaluate the diagnostic performance of the non-invasive IDRA® device in 16 patients diagnosed with DED and 18 control subjects.
Methods:
All patiens with and without DED completed the DEQ-5 questionnaire and underwent IDRA® examination, assessing non-invasive breakup time (NIBUT), lipid layer thickness (LLT), tear meniscus height (TMH), blink rate, and meibography. Statistical analyses included Student’s t-test, Mann-Whitney, Pearson’s and Spearman’s correlations.
Results:
Most parameters individually showed limited diagnostic value, except for TMH (p<0.05). The combined TMH + NIBUT analysis revealed excellent discriminatory ability (AUC = 0.88). Weak correlations were observed between DEQ-5 symptoms and IDRA® parameters.
Conclusion:
The IDRA® device demonstrated promising results, particularly in TMH evaluation and TMH + NIBUT combined analysis. Further research is needed to better correlate objective parameters with clinical manifestations.
