Extraintestinal manifestations of Crohn’s disease are common. Although ocular complications of Crohn’s disease are infrequent, most ocular manifestations include iritis, uveitis, episcleritis, scleritis and conjuntivitis. We report a patient who developed uveitis two years before diagnose of Crohn’s disease.

Pellucid marginal degeneration (PMD) is a rare corneal ectasia and its progression leads to irregular astigmatism and low vision that can not have spectacles or contact lens correction. This report describes a patient with low vision due to cataract and PMD that was treated with phacoemulsification and implantation of a toric intraocular lens with a satisfactory visual acuity outcome.

The authors report the use of photodynamic therapy with methyl aminolevulinate (Metvix®) in a patient with nodular and infiltrative basal cell carcinoma in the right lower eyelid. Side effects on the eye were evaluated weekly. After 12 weeks of treatment, to confirm cure the patient was submitted to a 2-mm punch biopsy, the anatomopathological findings of which were negative for neoplasia. The detachment of Descemet’s membrane can be a serious complication following cataract surgery, leading to severe corneal edema and reduced visual acuity. This report describes an unusual case of Descemet’s membrane detachment 6 months after successful phacoemulsification, documented by anterior segment optic coherence tomography (OCT; RTVue, Optovue). Malignant glaucoma is an entity characterized by intraocular pressure (IOP) with a shallow anterior chamber in the presence of a patent peripheral iridectomy. In its classic form, malignant glaucoma is rare but one of the most serious complications of fistulizing surgery in patients with narrow angle or angle closure glaucoma.
