The purpose of this article is to review the data on the scientific literature on refractive lens exchange considering the advantages, disadvantages and the risks involved on this procedure, taking under consideration each type of ametropia.

PURPOSE: To present refraction results using toric intraocular lens for correcting corneal astigmatism during cataract surgery. METHODS: The study comprised 27 eyes of 18 cataract patients with topographic corneal astigmatism higher than 1.0D and lower than 3.0D, submitted to cataract surgery using the phacoemulsification system, during the period of july to december 2007. The authors present a case of intralenticular metallic foreign body, in a metallurgist patient, with lateness diagnosis. They describe the importance of clinical exame, the surgical technical that was used to remove the foreign body of the crystalline and necessity to divulge and promote preventive ways at the occupational and domestical ambients.

A 34-year-old white man presented with a sudden unilateral recurrent visual loss. Fundus examination and fluorescein angiography revealed severe retinal vein occlusion. An antiphospholipid syndrome was discovered during etiological check up. A mutation of Leiden V factor was discovered and the patient started long term anticoagulation after the second occlusive event.
